Naughty Nauticals

Heyyoooo!
So... we just finished our week-long Art and Technology module in school, where we learn about how cameras work, what software is available to edit our photos, and good ways to set up lighting and backgrounds for your photos, if you're interested in documenting your own work rather than going through a photographer.
At the end of the 3-day course, we were to apply makeup, then take photos armed with our new knowledge to hopefully produce something that is portfolio worthy!
Here are a few of my results, on my lovely classmate Brianna.

As always, click on any image for a larger version!

I used the necklace in the pictures as inspiration for my colors. I LOVE the way this turned out. Lips used to be, and still are, a huge challenge for me to do on someone else, but I feel that they're really coming along.

Anyway! Have a great Valentine's day everyone... thanks for reading my humble words, and be sure to play with your makeup today!

Sunset Eyes!

Title is pretty cheesy, but this is how a girl in my class described my eyes for this day, so that's what I'm rolling with.
I started off with some cream-colored shimmery shadow on the very inner corner and as a brow bone highlight...I think I used "Virgin" from the UD Naked palette.
Then, using Detrivore's Afterworld, a nice shiny yellow-gold, and Death Valley, a rich, tropical pink shimmer, I created the lid colors (I really like how Death Valley makes almost an orange color when blended with the gold... and given my knowledge of color theory this makes sense. So yeah).
I then used Sacred, a shimmery violet color for the outer lid and crease area.
Obvi some black liquid liner. Didn't feel like smudging any pencils this day.

I've noticed that I use a similar color placement for most of my day to day makeup. It's just the way that I can most easily achieve a seamless blend. And I guess when I'm getting ready in the morning, it's easier to go for something that I KNOW works for me, than be all adventurous and then come up with something wonky.

Morning Blues

No, I am not Teh Sadz. On the contrary, I was quite happy with the way this look turned out! And I happened to do this in the morning before school... and I did it in blue. So yeah.
I have been having some serious fun with my new Detrivore eyeshadows recently.
I've been making the trip to Vancouver, BC 4 days a week since late November now, and I find that the best way to force myself to use a product is to bring that.. and only that.. with you on a trip. I recently ordered 10 Detrivore eyeshadows, so I've been bringing them with me to get some good use out of them!

This look involved 3 of their gorgeous blues. Blizzard on the inner corner/1st half of eye; Kraken on outer half of lid, and BSoD on the crease.
Blizzard is particularly beautiful as it's a white/blue duochrome. I'm just a total sucker for those multifaceted colors; it's a good way to cram even more awesomeness onto your lids without giving up prime real estate!
I got Kraken as a sample baggie with my order... so glad about it because I'm getting some good use out of that! How did they know?!? So smart. Lovely shimmery turquoise.
And BSod is a matte kinda royal blue color. Always pulls slightly darker on my skin than I would like it to. Maybe if I used a white base under it, it would work better?
Time will tell.
Not to be outdone, the bottom lid has Urban Decay's "Smog" and "Half-Baked," both from the Naked palette, smeared along it.

Revlon ColorStay foundation in 150 Buff
Tarte bronzer in Hotel Heiress

Pro-Valentine's Day 2012!

(Click images for a bigger version!)

So.... this blog, optimistically embarked upon as a face of the day type of thing so I, and others, can track my work and progress and tastes and stuff... has become a face of the whenever-I-damn-well-feel-like-it. Sorry about that, I actually do feel kind of bad. As if anyone reads this!
Anyway, a FB group I recently became a part of, "Never Too Much Sparkle," does these weekly showcase things where a theme is presented, and you can do your own variation or take on that theme. This week, you could pick pro or anti-Valentine's day and do a makeup look based on that.

Mine is obviously pro. We have the pinks, purples, and even a little electric blue in here, because I would feel weird about doing a look that is toooooo soft and pretty.

I like mugging for the camera, can you tell?? :D

I wasn't able to take a photo of the products I used, unfortunately, but I will list them:

Face:
Revlon Colorstay Foundation in Buff 150 (just purchased a new bottle, woohoo!!)
Physician's Formula Happy Booster blush in Natural (SO CUTE, and what's more Valentine-y than a blush with multicolored embossed hearts??? not a lot)

Eyes:
E.l.f. eye primer
Urban Decay Naked palette shadows (Virgin and Sin, inner corner and next little bit of lid)
Detrivore eyeshadows in Sexualis and Psychopathia (super blended out so it's hard to see, in outer half of lid and crease)
Sugarpill eyeshadow in Poison plum (very sheer in crease, blended out onto browbone)
LORAC baked eyeshadow, shimmery white as highlight
Urban Decay liquid eyeliner in Radium (tasty!!!!)
Maybelline Lash Stiletto black mascara

Lips:
I started the day using a wet n' wild pink lipliner and Urban Decay Ultraglide lip gloss in Quiver, but by the time I took these photos I was wearing Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me. In 1 or 2 pictures I was also wearing Urban Decay Pocket Rocket lipgloss in Jesse.
I am a huge Urban Decay fangirl, can you tell?

So obvi, lips just had to be some semblance of pink or whatever.

I hope that being a member of that Facebook group will encourage me to update this blog more regularly. I've actually finished 3 months of school at the Blanche Macdonald Centre in Vancouver, BC, which is an awesome makeup school. I'm learning so much, I just need to remember to have my camera on me in class so I can document my work!

All right. Thanks for reading this if you have, and have a grand Valentine's day if I don't see you before then :)

Polka dot nails!

I came down with a horrible cold yesterday, so I needed a lil' somthin' to cheer me up. Enter these nails- so cheerful that I forgot about the windy, rainy, blustery fall day outside.
I used a white base, then used a thermometer (ghetto fab!) as a dotting tool to create the multicolored polka dots! I used only cream nail polishes but I bet this would look cool with shimmery ones, or just using one color, with a different color base, etc. I know I'll try different variations in the future!

Hope you're inspired!

Autumn warmth

I've been ADORING the fresh new smells in the air, and pretty colors in the leaves as we creep into Autumn here in the Pacific NW. No better place to be, even if it is a tad wet.
I was feeling inspired by the the change of season the other day and decided to do a really nice, rich, deep eye look and just feel kinda cozy about it. If that makes any sense.

This is honestly my favorite type of color scheme to use. Anything reddish around the eye area gets my vote; I disagree with people who say it makes their eyes look bloodshot or tired. At least, I don't think it does that to me :)

Because I am ABOVE THE LAW! I do what I want!!

Productsssseeeessss:

Skin:
Revlon ColorStay foundation (150 Buff; I don't know why I ever use anything different)
E.l.f. pressed powder (Porcelain)
Milani Baked Blush (Red Vino)

Eyes:
E.l.f. eyelid primer
Mac eyeshadows (Coppering, Woodwinked, Sketch)
Lorac eyeshadow, matte beige (?)
Sugarpill (Bulletproof)
Revlon Colorstay eyeliner (Black, LOVE this)
Maybelline Falsies mascara (Black)

Eyebrows:
Urban Decay matte eyeshadow (Shakedown)

Lips:
Prestige mineral lip gloss (Soft Peach)

Night kids!
<3

No clue about any of this...

I do, however, know that it looks good.

I don't seem to have taken other pictures of this, or a products picture... so here's a random picture of some nice makeup from semi-recently.

I just received my new Sedu hair straightener in the mail this past week, so I may have just been trying it out. This is some mighty straight hair, after all.

Anyway!
Yes!
